Our Story

Letter from the Founder

I founded Self Protection Systems to give people who feel helpless simple yet effective skills they can use to keep themselves safe in a world of ever-increasing danger.

I read articles and see news footage constantly about women being assaulted or taken advantage of people getting hurt or killed because they weren’t strong enough to fight their attacker(s) off or did not have the awareness skills to realize that they were in danger.

SPS is not a martial art or a fighting style; it is an intellectual framework in which to judge personal protection concepts and skills with one goal in mind: can someone with very little training use this skill to keep themselves safe from a larger, stronger attacker?

We are different from most “self-defense” programs in that we do not just pay lip service to “being aware” - we actually train it just as much as any other skill. The physical assault is NOT the main encounter: it is the middle point of the encounter. There is a lot of information that is presented BEFORE a physical assault takes place and we train to spot, analyze, and respond to that information.

There is also a lot that occurs AFTER a physical assault takes place: physically, mentally, emotionally, and legally. We also train how to navigate all of that and continue to keep yourself as safe and as protected as possible.

Thank you for taking this course. We look forward to teaching you and we hope you find our program useful and you recommend it to any in your life that you feel would benefit from it.

Vince’s passion for martial arts began in childhood after seeing Bruce Lee on screen. He started training in Tae Kwon Do at age seven and later studied Shaolin Kempo Karate, Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai, FMA, and Senshido Self Defense.

For Vince, martial arts became a lifelong path focused on discipline, protection, and helping others. Guided by the belief, “My goal is never to win. It’s to get home safe,” he developed The CHEET Method, a practical and empathetic approach to self defense.

A lifelong student and educator, Vince is known for his patience, kindness, and commitment to helping people protect themselves and those they love.
